This is Moon River, a stylish shoulder bag that is fun to make! This bag is very roomy with three pockets to organize your items. The front flap, curved bottom and structured sides are what make this bag unique. The half-moon shape makes it easy to show off your favorite prints and cork fabric.
Also, I designed this bag to feature our Chain Strap Connectors! Although, you don't need the chain hardware to make this bag.
What you'll learn in this pattern:
Included are step-by-step graphics to help make the written directions easier to understand. There is a picture for almost every step. In this pattern you’ll learn how to add a magnetic snap, make a recessed zipper, and tips for sewing curves. This bag also features a front flap pocket and divided interior pocket. Also included are many sewing techniques and tips to help you achieve a quality, finished project. The finished size is 13" wide, 12" high, and 3-1/2" deep.
Easy Hardware Shopping
Chain Strap Connectors or Rectangle Rings to attach the shoulder straps. Our Chain Strap Connectors make this bag unique without a lot of effort! However, I understand that rectangle rings are much more common, so I've made sure that they will work with this pattern as well. You'll also need a 3/4" Magnetic Snap for the front flap. Each type of hardware is available in five colors: nickel, light gold, antique, gunmetal, and rose gold.
Try our Faux Metal Handbag Zippers by the Yard for this project!
Make the single zipper you need for Moon River using
Sallie Tomato Zippers by the Yard. Our zippers have a metallic coil, which appears to be metal. Easily make any size zipper you need!
Coordinate the zipper tape color with your fabric and match the nylon coil color with your purse hardware! Easily cut and sew through the nylon teeth, while achieving the professional appearance of metal teeth. Cut the length of zipper you need, when you need it, for minimal waste.
For the best results, use quilt weight cotton, canvas, denim, or linen for the exterior. I recommend quilt weight cotton for the lining. Try using cork or vinyl for the contrast, or you can use quilt weight cotton, canvas, denim, or linen.
This bag has a more professional, long-lasting finish if the recommended fabrics are used. In addition, these fabrics have been tested so your sewing machine will have no problems sewing through the thickness.
