The Dune franchise may be lesser known compared to other sci-fi empires, but it has had staying power. Especially considering it was first published in 1965, has sold more than 20 million copies, and was the inspiration behind franchises like Star Wars and Game of Thrones.
The initial Dune novel was followed by additional novels, movies, and television series over the decades. But it wasn’t until the modern day power of CGI, the true financial backing of Hollywood, and being paired with major A-list actors that it truly came to have the box office draw and attention that it does today.
When the Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet version of Dune released in 2021, directly to streaming, its impact on fashion was fast and fierce. To the point that it was featured in an article in Vogue and fashion designers built entire clothing lines with inspiration from the movie.
